May Meeting Recap
Jenny Schmitt, President and Senior Spark of CloudSpark, an Atlanta-based strategic communications company, spoke at our May 6 meeting on the ins and outs of Twitter. Here are some of the highlights:
- Social media is content conversations through online channels, and a micro blogging platform.
- Currently, Twitter has 104 million users, and 31 million are in the United States. Three hundred thousand people use the social media tool each day.
- Be three things to use Twitter most effectively: personal, promotional, conversational.
- Thank people when they share good content. This can be done by retweeting their message.
- Find like-minded people and join them regularly for a chat. Suggestions are to search #writechat and #journchat. If there’s not a chat for you, start one.
- Enlist in the help of TweetDeck and HootSuite to manage your tweet stream. TweetDeck manages your big stream into small streams, and HootSuite allows you to schedule tweets.
- Solid communication is present, persistent and consistent. Listen, respond and engage on Twitter.
- Click your Twitter name to get your messages.
